The Dubai Shopping Festival 2019-2020
The 22nd annual Dubai Shopping Festival is well underway! The festival offers an immersive and thrilling entertainment and shopping experience for visitors to this vibrant, modern, and cultural city.
- The Dubai Shopping Festival 2020-2021 is from December 26th – February 1st.
Massive flash sales, vibrant street entertainment, jaw-dropping fireworks, and cuisine to make your mouth water, cooked by some of the world’s most experienced chefs. You can expect all of this and so much more from the Dubai Shopping Festival.
Dubai overall is a fantastic place to visit, especially if you want to get away from the cold weather. Shoppers and those looking for a bargain on big brand named names will find more than enough to see and do.
Families are also more than catered for, with rides, amusements, street performers, and shows by some of the biggest names in music. The event is the perfect time to visit the city while enjoying the exciting vibe this festival brings alive.
This isn’t just a celebration of everything retail; it’s a celebration of modern-day fun!
Dubai Shopping Festival – What to know
A festival about shopping? Why not! This event is a wonderful blend of old and new. You can find absolutely anything you’re looking for at one of the stalls or stores. If you’re trying to stock up on presents for the holiday season the following year, why not start early? It’s a great excuse!
Of course, we need to know a little more about this festival, in order to really understand the whole point of it.
The Dubai Shopping Festival takes place across the city, and it isn’t just dedicated to the huge shopping malls. You will find the majority of the sales and other events taking place in these large air-conditioned places of shopping heaven, especially the Mall of the Emirates, where Jessie J played a large concert at the end of the festival.
Before viewing which brands will be at DSF 2019-2020, you should know that most retailers will offer up to a 90% discount.
Over 100 brands took part in the 2019 edition, including some very recognisable ones:
- Etoile La Boutique
- Harvey Nichols
- Mark’s & Spencer
- Massimo Dutti
- Saks Fifth Avenue
- Al Fardan Jewels & Precious Stones
- Editions de Parfums by Frédéric Malle
- Galeries Lafayette
As you can see, these are easily recognisable names, and they’re not particularly ‘out there’ regarding price either. This shows you how accessible this festival is, and it’s not dedicated to substantial designer names either! There are countless more brands on offer than these, but this is to show you a snapshot of what you can expect to see.
Every Friday there is a surprise sale going on somewhere in the city, but this is likely to extend to many stores. So make sure you’re up early on a Friday and heading out to find out where the lowest prices are!
Throughout the week there are cut priced deals to be found, and this is the ideal time of the year to grab some bargains. It’s not all about shopping either, as many restaurants and tourist attractions also have discount offers on for those who are visiting the city for the festival, and it’s a good idea to purchase the Dubai Shopping Festival Pass if you want to take full advantage of what’s on offer.
We talked about the fact that the festival brings the city together, and this is evident on the entertainment side of things going on too.
If you’re heading to Dubai in March and fancy watching a horse race, then see the Dubai World Cup.
Every Thursday and Friday firework displays are going on at specific locations across the city, and if you head to Global Village on any night, you’ll find a real carnival atmosphere. The beach has firework displays at 9.30pm, La Mer at 9 pm, Al Seef at 8.30pm, and the exciting Global Village will light up the night sky at 9 pm too.
The Dubai Global Village with kids
Global Village is the ideal place to head to if you’re travelling with kids because you’ll be able to enjoy the atmosphere and keep the little ones occupied at the same time. Street performers, dancers, singers, fire eaters, you name it, you’ll find it!
There are rides, amusements, and all manner of other fun things to do, all under the Dubai night sky. This area is, of course, open during the day too, but the evening time is a really magical time to visit, with some discounts on offer thanks to the festival taking place.
Another must visit place during the festival itself is Market OTB. This is where you can shop on the market scene, checking out items from up and coming designers and retailers. Bargains galore!
Market OTB is in Burj Park, and it’s an al fresco shopping experience, which covers a vast 113,000 square metres of grassland. The attraction is open from 11 January to 20 January inclusive, and from 4 pm – 10 pm during weekdays, and from 10 am – 10 pm during the weekend. There is nothing more atmospheric than a night market, and in Dubai, it is done in style!
Worth Your Time
Put simply, the full feeling of shopping in Dubai is felt during the festival, but it’s about so much more than that. The lively vibe, the feel of excitement in the air, and a general sense of anything goes. Dubai is a wonderful destination at the best of times, but during the shopping festival, there is so much going on, it’s a real assault on the senses in the best way possible!
