While the Governor’s Ball might sound like masses of wealthy colonials venturing up stone staircases toward vaulted double doors that open to an exquisite ballroom playing classical music, it is nothing of the sort.

What Is Governors Ball All about
What they love
FOOD, of course! One of The Governors Ball’s main focuses is to bring in the best food from the foodie capital of the world by selecting from top-notch restaurants, food trucks, and menus.

In year’s past, they have fed their festival attendee’s delectable eats from vendors such as: Dan and John’s Wings, The Spaghetti Incident, Wowfulls, Black Tap, Bluestone Lane, Streetbird Rotisserie, and Mario By Mary.
How They Connect
Governors Ball heightens the music festival experience and brings people together by coordinating activities such as life-size board games, silent discos, mini golf, and much, much more!

When they create: To color, beautify, and spice up the festival, Governors Ball brings in art installations, inspiration, and bold statements from all around the city to show off and encourage New York City’s colorful, vibrant, and unique spirit.

Gov Ball 2018: Be Part Of The Legend
Buy your tickets soon to become part of one of New York City’s favorite festivals and gatherings of the year!
Boogie down, shake your tails feathers, head bang, express yourself, stuff your face with amazing food, share art, make friends, and sing your heart out at this year’s 2018 Governors Ball!
Buy them online as quickly as you can; there have been a countless number of broken-hearted procrastinators at the gate.
Forget about your diet for 3 days, because with the wrong attitude, you could potentially miss out on some of the best food of your life. You can work it off later.
3# Have Wardrobe Mindfulness
While it is easy to get caught up in how sexy you might look in that floor length skirt or classy fur coat, think of these things in order to avoid an unfortunate malfunction: the hot sun (all day), potential rain, sweating, heavy dancing, lots of walking, crowds, and, most importantly, port-a-potties.
4# Think ahead
If you are a die-hard fan of a certain artist/band, look at where they will be performing ahead of time, and arrive at that place while the band before them is finishing up in order to get a good spot. Do not be shocked by large crowds: they exist everywhere. If you want to catch a good glimpse of Maynard from Tool, perhaps see his arm hairs, think ahead!
What to Do?
If you are traveling to New York from out of town, it is highly suggested that you stay awhile longer to explore some of what this world famous city has to offer!
Sightseeing in New York City
Whether you stop by to check out the dazzling light display and globalized stupor of Times Square, rollerskate in 90s gear with a boombox over your shoulder through Central Park, or gaze out at the enormous, jaw dropping Statue of Liberty, you will be amazed at the unforgettable energy, neverending excitement, and unique vibe of New York City.
Where to Stay?
Since Gov Ball doesn’t offer camping, your best optionis a place to stay in New York during the festival.
there are many hotels near Randall’s Island with rooms ranging from $150-$200 per night, such as Aloft Harlem, W. New York, The Westin New York Grand Central, Hotel Wolcott, and Hampton Inn New York; you can easily search for and book them at booking.com. These hotels are a great option for groups of friends willing to split the cost!
If you are on your own or traveling in a small group, however, you might want to consider nearby youth hostels, such as the HI NYC hostel, for only $40-$60 a night per dorm bed.
Where ever you chose to stay, I highly suggest that you book a room now, because accommodations will definitely start filling up soon!
Where to Eat?
Being the food capital of the U.S., if you are staying in New York City for any length of time, it is definitely worth checking out the food scene.
From food trucks, to hole-in-the-walls, to casual dining, to fine dining, there is something for everyone.
Where to eat in Randall’s Island
Ranging from cheapest to most expensive, here is a list of the top recommended places to eat in the Randall’s Island area: Los Tacos, Uncle Gussy’s, Tony Dragon’s Grille, Little Collins, Dutch Fred’s, Up Thai, Tanner Smith’s, Marlow Bistro, and Torishin. Yum!
How to Get There?
For many, the hustle and bustle of New York City can be a bit intimidating. For that, below is a quick guide on how to maneuver through this city, and ways for you to get to Randall’s Island for the festival.
You can fly into either LGA, JFK, or EWR (although EWR is least recommended since it’s in New Jersey, which is a bit farther away).
You can take either NJ Transit, LIRR to Penn Station, Metro North to Grand Central Station, or Amtrak.
Getting to Randall’s Island Park
Now, there are several different ways you can get to Randall’s Island Park; you can do so by Water Taxi, a Shuttle from Williamsburg Brooklyn, Subway/Bus, walking, or biking. It is important to note that as of right now, there is no parking on the island (because of construction), so the option to drive your car there is not available.
1- Water Taxi from Manhattan
As a favorite method of transportation, the water taxi will pick you up from Brooklyn Bowl and will drop you off right at the gates of The Governors Ball. Note: You must purchase your tickets ahead of time (because of the popularity of this method, I suggest buying them sooner than later).
2- Williamsburg Shuttle
Also leaves from Brooklyn Bowl and stops right at the gates; as shuttle tickets are also limited, you should purchase them beforehand as well.
You can get to Randall’s Island by taking trains 4, 5, or 6 to 125th Street and transferring to the x80 Special Event Bus. Luckily, there are many busses going this route all day and all night; just be sure to have a Metrocard with money on it ($6.50 round trip).
If staying in shape, being sustainable, and taking the scenic route are your style, you can easily walk or ride over the RFK bridge, or the 103rd St. Footbridge (it has nicer views and is oftentimes much less crowded).
Since a lot of traffic is expected, taking car, Uber, and/or cab to the show is highly frowned upon. If you must, however, you should park them over by RFK or 103rd street bridges and walk on over. Also note that, from 9pm – 1am, for-hire vehicles, such as Ubers and taxi’s, will not be able to pick you up from the island. Therefore, suggested modes of transportation are 1-4.

Governors Ball History
Starting off as just a one-day festival in 2011 starring only 12 bands (featuring Passion Pit, Empire of the Sun, and Miami Horror) on Governors Island, to a two-day festival in 2012 starring a few more bands (featuring Kid Cudi, Atmosphere, Modest Mouse, and Bed), to where it is today, in 2017 as a three-day festival starring over 60 bands on Randall’s Island and becoming one of New York City’s premier festivals, it is modest to say that the Governors Ball is booming.
