Prix du Jockey Club Race 2020 Preview

The Prix du Jockey Club Race (French Derby) is a group 1flat horse race for 3-year-old thoroughbreds in Chantilly racecourse, early June. The distance of the French Derby is a mile and 2 ½ furlongs, with an uphill finish of 3 furlongs.

The distance before 2005 was a mile and a half. The sponsors of the race are Qipco, which also sponsor Prix de L’arc Triomphe in October and Guineas Festival in May.

Prix du Jockey Club Race 2021 Recap

The bookies favourite St Mark’s Basilica had a perfect ride to win the French Derby. Jockey Mendizabal kept his timing in the inline and right before the 200m line, stormed to the first position and never looked back. This was an easy win for trainer Aidan O’Brien. The final top 3 results are:

Chantilly Racecourse

Chantilly stages the French Derby Every June since in it’s 180th edition. The first Prix du Jockey Club was at 1836. The spectacular course provides racegoers with stunning views of Grandes Écuries and the Princes de Condé’s château.

Chantilly Racecourse Location

Chantilly is located in the country’s main horse training area on 65 hectares, populated by over 100 trainers next to the Chantilly Forest. The training centre is managed by France Galop and more than 2,500 racehorses are exercised on the centre’s 2,000 hectares of gallops.

The racecourse was constructed adjacent to the existing Great Stables built in 1719 by estate owner, Louis Henri de Bourbon, Prince de Condé. They were designed by the architect Jean Aubert with the 186-meter-long stable widely regarded as the most beautiful in the world.

Chantilly Racecourse Throughout The Years

The first race at Chantilly was held in May 1836 and the existing grandstand was designed by Honoré Daumet in 1879. In 1982, the Living Museum of the Horse was created as part of the stables which was opened to the public. In July 2006, the museum was acquired by the Foundation for the Safe-keeping and Development of the Chantilly Domain, presided over by His Highness the Aga Khan.

What is the Prix du Jockey Club Dress Code?

There is no specific dress code for the Prix du Jockey Club Race, although there is a dress ‘norm’. At the Panoramic Stand and Winning Post Stand for gentlemen are a suit and tie, while for ladies is a smart dress according to the races.

At the general free entry area, the dress code is casual.
